COVID-19 is making headlines across the globe for causing a breakout of an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. One of the biggest downturns of the 21st century, it has infected millions of people and does not seem to stop anytime soon. People of all ages can get infected but people with pre-existing medical conditions such as Obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease are more susceptible to the illness. In addition to this, the Pandemic has resulted in a significant increase in people becoming overweight or obese. The abnormal condition puts people at high risk as health and nutrition are not being adhered to due to physical and mental constraints caused by the lockdown.

The Pandemic has broadened the spotlight and put people with medical conditions under the scanner. However, research has shown that losing weight by incorporating a nutritional diet with the right amount of protein can reduce the consequences of becoming severely ill from COVID-19. So protein deficiency disease can result in COVID-19

Protein is one of the most common and significant macronutrients that is vital for building muscle mass. It is essential that we focus on building a nutrition intake that widely focuses on protein as it is made of building blocks known as amino acids which are crucial for the growth of cells and tissues as well as their maintenance.

Why do we need Protein more than anything now?

The essential functions can help us understand the importance of protein and its role. By introducing the right amount of protein into our diet and nutrition intake, we can help maximize muscle mass which will further contribute to tackling the severity of COVID-19.

How can I find the right Protein?

Too much of anything is bad and it is important that nutrition in these times is carefully monitored.

A range of animal-based and plant-based foods are rich in protein, but is the quality the same? Protein can be found in various ways, but the proportion of essential and non-essential amino acids differs from each food base. It is evident that animal-based proteins are rich and high in quality as they have a higher level of essential amino acids compared to plant-based foods which have a lower level of essential amino acids that is required by the body. The right amount of protein contributes to a stronger body with better immunity and in these times will be crucial.

Over the years, the ability to extract and formulate information that allows us to be more informed about the foods we consume, the guidance which help us in carrying out a healthy weight loss by focusing on very low calorie ketogenic diets are vital especially in these times.
